Hanna Zelaya

A couple of other volunteers and I spend weekends in different parts of the island (Flowers Bay, Coxen Hole, and Dixon Cove), taking long walks while collecting garbage and cleaning the streets and sidewalks. Some of the activities include:

• Working as part of a team with other volunteers.
• Improving the local environment through regular neighborhood cleanups and beautification projects.
• Picking up litter and waste from streets, sidewalks, and parks.
• Separating recyclable materials whenever possible.
• Sweeping sidewalks and public areas.
• Engaging community members and tourists to help keep the area clean.

As an FGBMFI event volunteer, I support the ministry in organizing and executing dinners and events that share Christian testimonies, ensuring a welcoming, organized, and spiritually enriching environment for all attendees. For example:

• Event Planning
  a. Assist in planning events focused on Christian encounters and testimonies.
  b. Collaborate with ministry leaders to prepare schedules, themes, and guest lists.
  c. Coordinate with other volunteers to ensure all aspects of the event are covered.
• Guest Hospitality
  a. Greet guests warmly at the door, providing a friendly and welcoming environment.
  b. Assist guests with seating arrangements and provide information about the event.
  c. Ensure guests feel comfortable and supported throughout the event.
• Food and Beverage Service
  a. Prepare and arrange tables for meals and refreshments.
  b. Serve food and drinks to guests during the event, ensuring timely and courteous service.
  c. Monitor supplies and assist in restocking as necessary.
• Event Hall Preparation and Decoration
  a. Clean and organize the event hall before and after events.
  b. Decorate the venue according to the theme of the event, ensuring a welcoming and spiritually uplifting atmosphere.
  c. Set up audio-visual equipment, banners, and materials needed for testimonies or presentations.
• Post-Event Support
  a. Help with clearing tables, washing dishes, and general clean-up of the venue.
  b. Provide feedback to event organizers for improvements or suggestions.
• Team Collaboration
  a. Communicate effectively to handle any unexpected issues during events.

The project involved installing a ceiling at the Department of Education Office. It focused on improving the physical conditions of a government education office by assisting with ceiling installation. I supported skilled workers and contributed to creating a safer and more comfortable workspace.

My main tasks include:

• Passing tools and materials to construction workers as needed.
• Assisting with the installation of ceiling panels.
• Cleaning debris and maintaining a safe and organized workspace.
• Continuously improving my knowledge of industry best practices through ongoing learning opportunities.
• Expediting project timelines by efficiently transporting materials between storage areas and work sites.
• Enhancing project efficiency by assisting in the preparation and organization of construction sites.
• Supporting team members with various tasks, contributing to the timely completion of projects.

I gather at this church along with my family. So for a while now, I have been volunteering in many of the activities that are organized there. Some of them are:

• Led worship music performances during services, uplifting the congregation through song and praise.
• Provided compassionate support to congregation members in need of assistance, offering both practical help and emotional support.
• Maintained church website and social media pages, keeping content current and engaging.
• Taught Sunday School classes to children, explaining Bible stories in an engaging and age-appropriate way.
• Participated in religious plays and church presentations during special events.
• Assisted in organizing and supporting youth services and church events.

Cattleyas is a nonprofit organization that supports children with disabilities from the CEDICA Center, which stands for the Center for Development in Inclusive Education.

Some of the tasks I carried out as a volunteer are listed below:

• Provided one-on-one support for struggling students, tailoring instruction to meet their unique needs and improve academic performance.
• Read stories, sang songs, and facilitated creative play.
• Implemented daily routines and activities to stimulate and engage children.
• Supervised children of various ages on the playground and during field trips.
• Created Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) based on each child’s needs.
• Supported students in expressing their feelings in healthy ways.
• Developed lessons and activities to promote children’s physical and emotional development.
